Cars in German Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Police reported they were contacted by a resident who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
