Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on court had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, took control to force a decider.

Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
