Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
